We have a new feature here at the CES blog. It’s called Meet the Staff and will showcase the lovely people who make up the lean, mean, event planning machine that is CES.
To start us off, we’ll be getting to know the newest addition to our office:
Name: Nathan Finch
Position: Reservation Coordinator and Assistant (to the) Director
How would you describe the job responsibilities of this position?
Well, since I sit in the front desk, I am responsible for the face value of the department. I am the first person people see when they walk in the door and hear when they call the office. How I interact with all our clients – from student organizations to soon-to-be Mr. and Mrs. – really reflects the department’s image, which is very important since we deal with a LOT of people…It is a nice feeling when people leave the office or hang up the phone with: “Thank you for everything.”
Tell us about a moment where you had to go above and beyond to get a job done?
Most of the information needed to reserve campus space is online, but I get a lot of phone calls and visits on the same information, so instead of simply referring them to the website, I take the time to guide them and show them the process step-by-step so that they won’t have to waste their time coming in or calling when they want to reserve a room.
What do you view as the most challenging part of this job?
It would probably be making people aware of the rules and policies, especially the new students.
If you won a free trip anywhere in the world, where would you go and why?
Without hesitation: Tokyo, Japan. Japan is the perfect mix between modern day technology and fascinating history and culture. It’s a really nice blend of new and old; the best of both worlds. Also I love video games and have a PS3 so going to pretty much “video game central” would be pretty cool.
